Popped Wheat

Posted in food by Emme on the November 18, 2008

To pop wheat:

Take wheat berries and soak them overnight (or boil them for an hour). Soaking overnight is much more energy efficient. Dry. Pop in oil in a pan. Cover the pan so that the berries don’t jump out! Dry on a towel to remove the excess oil. Flavor as desired (here is cinnamon sugar).

Oh – have to try this! We get wheat berries from a local farmer to grind for flour and use for a few other things, but I have not ever heard of this. I’m going to soak some now! :)
